Taxiway C Project Opens

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is pleased to announce that the Taxiway C project is now complete and flights are currently using it. This project is one of the examples of federal stimulus funding at work. In fact, federal stimulus funds of $11.7 million paid for the Taxiway C Project.

The project, which began in late July 2009, entailed replacing 2,200 linear feet of asphalt with 20-inch thick cement concrete on a taxiway located parallel to Sky Harbor’s north runway. The replacement of the asphalt for concrete will make the taxiway last longer because it is more durable. This area was previously used for smaller general aviation aircraft. It is now open to commercial traffic. It will allow planes to travel between the gates and the runway more efficiently, and may decrease the time it takes passengers to get from the gates to their destinations as a result. Furthermore, this project features some environmental benefits, such as reducing airplane emissions of the airplanes and air pollution because of the decreased amount of time it will take to get to and from the gates.

This project was run by AMES Construction. Nearly 300 jobs were created for Phoenix-area residents as a result.
